Spring

The spring time was associated with a changing of the seasons and coming of new life. Plants began to sprout and were ready to be gathered as winter supplies ran out. Cattails, wild onion, carrot, and even cacti were a part of the spring plants that Shoshone people would gather and use. At Washakie, people farmed potatoes and other crops.

These were planted in the spring in preparation for the coming Fall harvest. During the spring time, the warm dance also occured as the winter came to a close. For other Shoshone communities, particularly the Western Shoshone the Bear Dance would occur during this time of year, signifying that the Bear had awakened from their Winter slumber. The spring time was associated with new beginnings, growth, and the coming of warmer weather.
